Hatfield 1677 by Laura C. Rader Receives Multiple Literary Recognitions

United States, 24th Jan 2025, - Laura C. Rader's historical novel, Hatfield 1677, has been acknowledged with several literary honours. The book has been awarded the BREW Seal of Excellence 2024, named BREW Readers' Choice Award 2024-2025 finalist, nominated for the BREW Fiction Book Excellence Award 2025, and received the Spotlyts Story Award 2025. 

The Chrysalis BREW Project, in its review, described the novel as "a mesmerizing tale that vividly captures the raw edges of a colonial landscape, illuminating the universal threads of resilience, love, and survival." 

The Spotlyts Story Award 2025 was conferred upon Hatfield 1677, with Spotlyts noting that the novel is "a masterful blend of meticulous research, evocative storytelling, and deep empathy for its characters." 

Hatfield 1677 is set during King Philip’s War in 17th-century colonial America. The narrative follows Benjamin Waite and his wife, Martha, as they tackle the challenges of war, cultural conflicts, and personal sacrifices. The story offers perspectives from both colonial and indigenous characters, providing a balanced view of the era's complexities.

About the Author 

Laura C. Rader holds a BA in psychology from San Diego State University, with a minor in history. She taught history and English for thirty years before focusing on historical fiction. Based in North Carolina, she enjoys genealogy, book clubs, walks with her Collie, and visiting her daughter.
